Get Back on Track with Second Chance Checking

April 17th, 2008

A checking account is one of the most important elements to a person’s financial operations. A checking account provides a secure location for your money and makes your funds readily available. More merchants are accepting checks or debit cards for payment rather than cash. Having a checking account also helps establish a relationship with your financial institution.

Your ability to maintain a checking account plus your performance with on-time loan payments each month helps improve your ability to open new accounts. Unfortunately, there are daily distractions and other causes that prevent us from properly maintaining our financial accounts. As this happens, it becomes more difficult to keep your relationship or even begin new relationships with other financial institutions.

Mutual Savings Credit Union understands the importance of having a checking account as well as recognizes the difficulty of trying to open a new checking account despite having struggled with previous accounts. Sometimes we all need a second chance. That’s why Mutual Savings offers Second Chance Checking. This fee-based account allows members to receive free checks, a free ATM card, free online bill pay, and free e-statements just as they would with a perfect performance background. Plus, if a member keeps their Second Chance Checking account in good standing for one year, they will be eligible to upgrade to our no-fee Basic Checking account.

If you need a second chance, get back on track with a Second Chance Checking account from MSCU. Visit one of our ten locations for more details about this great account and the other benefits of our membership!

Be aware of tax scams!

April 4th, 2008

Mutual Savings Credit Union Members that are anxious to receive their 2007 tax returns or Economic Stimulus payment should be aware of possible scams to intercept incoming payments.

A recent scam involves an email claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. The message explains that the recipient has an unclaimed refund awaiting the reader’s acceptance. The email goes on to instruct recipients to call a phone number featuring an Arizona area code to provide needed financial information in order to claim the refund.

MSCU members are encouraged to be aware of these types of scams and to keep their guards up even in the weeks after tax season ends. The IRS does not contact tax payers by email and suggests that recipients of similar emails should ignore the messages. A good rule of thumb to remember is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

To check the legitimacy of an email or letter you may have received, visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov. You may also call the IRS service desk at 202-874-4357.
