By now, you’ve probably heard that up to 143 million people’s personal, financial information has been compromised. Equifax, one of the 3 major credit bureaus, was hacked some time in May.
Here is what we know, according to Equifax. The breach lasted from mid-May through July. The hackers accessed people’s names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some
instances, driver’s license numbers. They also stole credit card numbers for about 209,000 people and dispute documents with personal identifying information for about 182,000 people. Although Mutual Savings does not report to Equifax, many of our members’ information is now exposed.
We are encouraging all of our members to refer to the Federal Trade Commission (https://buff.ly/2x2vq0B) and the Alabama Credit Union Administration (https://buff.ly/2x1KzyY) for suggested next steps. If you have any other questions about next steps, please see a Mutual Savings representative.
